The ASME A17.1 / CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators has become the accepted guide throughout North America for the design, construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, alteration, and repair of elevators, escalators and related conveyances.
This edition of the Code contains many revisions, including the addition of cybersecurity requirements, remote interaction operation requirements and test enable operation requirements. In addition, many requirements have been updated, including flood protection of elevators, alternate testing of emergency braking and door position monitoring on Phase II.
ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world.
