This Third Edition includes standards for three technologies for elevator suspension, namely:
- Steel wire ropes
- Noncircular elastomeric-coated steel suspension members
- Steel wire ropes for wind turbine tower elevators and special application elevators
Each part of the standard includes the material properties, design, testing, inspection, and replacement criteria for these means. A17.6 also includes the requirements for these three technologies, and provides direction for future constructions as new technology develops. Uniform standards for these important items are necessary to ensure consistent levels of safety.
This Third Edition is unique in the world in addressing elevator suspension. It is intended to be used in conjunction with ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.
