Description
SPECIAL NOTICE: Please check each course for verification of approval before purchasing.
This test is based on the article, Rope Life: From Theory to Field Practice, Part 1, published in the October 2026 issue and counts as one contact hour (0.1 CEU) of elevator industry continuing education credit. This course is approved by NAEC for CET/CAT and .01 CE QEI and NAESA for QEI and in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin.
Learning Objectives - After reading this article, you should have learned how to:
- Connect modern MRL and compared gearless design choices to increased bending fatigue and shorter rope-placement intervals.
- Interpret ASME A17.1/A17.6 discard criteria as field limits and relate them to fatigue mechanisms such as crown breaks, diameter loss and rouge.
- Describe how bending fatigue, tensile load, lubrication condition and statistical discard criteria fit together in the Feyrer rope-endurance model.
- Apply the EN 81-50 equivalent-pulley method to compare rope paths, groove profiles, reverse bends and sheave-size effects from an application standpoint.
- Identify how drive-sheave diameter relative to rope diameter, D/d, affects bending strain, required safety factor and predicted cycles to discard.
- If you do not already have an account on elevatorbooks.com, you will need to create one. NOTE: the name of the person purchasing must be the same name as the person who will take the exam.
- For articles, click the "Read Article" tab above to download and study the article. For other courses, be sure to purchase the corresponding book.
