This test is based on the article, Wet Ropes Equal Dead Ropes, published in the March 2013 issue and counts as one contact hour (0.1 CEU) of elevator industry continuing education credit. Learning Objectives - After reading this article, you should have learned about:


  • The basic core differences between natural, synthetic (or mixed) and independent wire rope core ropes
  • How moisture may enter the hoist rope through natural Capillary action called wicking
  • The various sources of moisture hoist rope may be exposed to on a jobsite
  • That re-lubrication of ropes in the field has little effect on preventing water ingress once moisture has been introduced within the rope.
  • How to recognize forms of moisture damage, such as rouging and rust, within a rope
  • How ropes should be stored on a jobsite to prevent moisture ingress

  5. If you scored 80% or above, you can immediately print your certificate of completion. If you fail the exam, you will be given instructions on how to pay a re-take fee and take the exam again.
