This test is based on the article, Maintaining Elevators and Escalators in the Transit Environment, Part 2, published in the April 2013 issue and counts as one contact hour (0.1 CEU) of elevator industry continuing education credit. Most courses approved by NAEC for CET/CAT and NAESAI for QEI and in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

Learning Objectives - After reading this article, you should have learned about:


  • Although the equipment in many transit systems is old and, in many cases, in poor condition, the situation can be reversed
  • Knowing the true condition of each piece of equipment is critical in the process of developing a plan outlining what needs to be done to bring the equipment back to a state of good repair
  • How a solid maintenance program is developed and what it entails
  • How the elevator/escalator modernization program should fit into the transportation authority's master capital plan
  • How performance indicators can help yet also damage transit authorities
  • That open communication with the press and public is one of the most important things a transit authority can do with regrards to its maintenance and modernization/upgrade programs

  2. For articles, click the "Read Article" tab above to download and study the article. For other courses, be sure to purchase the corresponding book.
  3. Include your full name when purchasing the exam.
  4. Follow the instructions on the purchase confirmation page to log in to the Online Testing Center.
  5. If you scored 80% or above, you can immediately print your certificate of completion. If you fail the exam, you will be given instructions on how to pay a re-take fee and take the exam again.
